Summary
Position Summary
Provides customer service support and processes correspondence and requests for patient information in accordance with organizational policies, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations. Primary responsibilities include assisting customers (the public, physicians, nursing units, other hospital departments, patients, and employees, etc.) with the release of information. . Work is generally done independently and requires the ability to utilize and operate multiple computer systems, telephones, and facsimile resources to provide customer service and support.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related discipline preferred. RHIT or RHIA preferred.
- License/Certifications: N/A
- Experience: 1–3 years’ required experience in Release of Information. Previous EPIC or EMR experience is preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in performance of duties
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to operate multiple integrated software applications, and other programs to include resources and e-mail
- Ability to work independently, multitask, provide instruction and prioritize
- Computer and keyboarding skills required
- Must be detail orientated and have effective problem-solving skills.
- Formal medical terminology course is required, but can be obtained within six months.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and State Regulations related to release of information required
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software products, including Excel.
