Job Title: Operations and Finance Officer (Berlin based)

Job Type: Full-time/ 12 month fixed contract (with ability for renewal)

About us:

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision and agility. Through our collaborative work with our partners, we foster transparent, inclusive and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies that thrive.

Across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, media research and monitoring, in addition to supporting the financial viability of our partners. Support for media cooperation, media networking and development, and capacity building in journalism is considered key to the transformation process.

A new focus is the promotion of media in exile. We are currently running various aid programmes for journalists and editorial staff who have fled from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia, as well as from Myanmar and Afghanistan.

The projects are managed by a Project Manager together with an Operations & Finance Officer. MiCT offers the opportunity to work with a vibrant and diverse group of people, working on media development projects we deeply care about.

Responsibilities/Core Functions:

· Provide administrative and logistical support to project management

  • Track and analyze all costs incurred under the award; oversee payments
  • Monitor program budget and provide required reporting; maintain financial records for program activities
  • Ensure that financial management and procurement is conducted in compliance internal and external policies
  • Support timely delivery of quality financial reports to donors and internal reports to colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with relevant country statutory and other financial obligations such as tax, levies, and statutory returns
  • Auditing of invoices according to donor specifications as well as recording of expenses
  • Monitoring of project finances and responsibility for financial reporting in German and English to project donors
  • Supporting the project management with budget monitoring and updates
  • Collaborate with HR and finance department in the area of preparation, control and follow-up of contracts and reporting etc.
  • Support and prepare project reports, project proposals, budgets and auditing

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Desired education level: Bachelor or Master (Accountancy & Tax system, Applied Economics, accounting, finance or comparable).
  • Excellent time management skills (working independently and ability to meet deadlines).
  • Experience analyzing budget trends and monitoring funding levels across multiple accounts
  • Strong intercultural competence and empathy, especially sensitivity for (inter-) cultural communication differences
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, ability to work in a team, flexibility and mobility, also in an international environment
  • Advanced MS Office and reporting software skills
  • Business fluent in English

Additional Qualities:

  • Knowledge of project accounting, compliance, & the guidelines of third-party funding agencies (AA/EU/BMZ/UN)
  • Knowledge of Arabic, German and/or French is an advantage
