The Finance and Procurement Operations Team (FPO) form part of HMRC’s Unity Business Service (UBS), a central team who provide services to both HMRC and the Valuation Office Agency as part of the wider Chief Finance Officer Group fulfilling a vital role at the heart of HMRC.

We are a professional, friendly, and welcoming group who together provide a full range of financial and accounting services across the whole of HMRC. 

Our services range from: 

  • Dealing with external and internal customers
  • Invoice Processing
  • Billing
  • Income collection
  • Telephone help desk.
  • Debt management
  • Revenue reporting
  • Credit checks.
  • Asset management
  • General ledger management
  • Organising supplier payment
  • Reconciliation work
  • All aspects of resource banking. 

Our activity plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of HMRC’s strategic objectives and keeps frontline operations working effectively. 

We currently have two vacancies within FPO, one within the Accounts Payable and Payments Team, the other with the myBUY Help desk. In this role you may be required at any time to undertake duties within any team, following training.

Job description

In this role, some of your responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Input of data to process commercial invoices and instigate payment to suppliers.
  • Resolution of written and telephone enquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Working with suppliers/individuals to recover monies overpaid.
  • Delivering information to colleagues across the business
  • Completion of information to support team statistics
  • Running of reports 
  • Sharing information, ideas and concerns to support team learning, continuous improvement activity and overall success of the team
  • Working to key targets and timelines to support prompt payment to suppliers.
  • Working as a key part of the team to improve productivity, quality and provide excellent customer service.
  • Gathering information and applying judgement to achieve the best outcome for our business.
  • Take responsibility for personal performance in accordance with HMRC priorities.

Over the coming years the successful candidate will also need to engage with the Unity Programme to support the delivery of shared services within the Unity Business Services cluster.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and adaptable to change. Our perfect fit is someone who demonstrates flexibility in their approach to work and possesses an understanding of IT, particularly Microsoft applications. Strong organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to take pride in their work with meticulous attention to detail. We seek an individual who thrives on variety and can maintain a versatile approach to daily tasks while consistently delivering high-quality results in line with HMRC’s strategic objectives. 

The role is open to homeworkers but there is a requirement to attend the office each month. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
  • Flexible and versatile approach to their daily work activities. 

The ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £25,082, HM Revenue and Customs contributes £7,266 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.

HMRC operates both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your work and personal commitments. We welcome applications from those who need to work a more flexible arrangement and will agree to requests where possible, considering our operational and customer service needs. 

We offer a generous leave allowance, starting at 25 days and increasing by a day for every year of qualifying service up to a maximum of 30 days.
