Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience

As part of our continuing plans to expand our reach and impact, we are looking for a Product Designer to join our team.We are responsible for delivering digital experiences which have a large audience and measurable positive impact on young people and educators. For example, our content is viewed millions of times a year; our Coolest Projects showcase keeps growing, and in 2021, shared their tech creations; and Code Club World, is and has a rapidly growing user base.In this role, you will report to the Head of Product Design and work as part of team of Product Designers, User Experience Researchers, Content Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers. Together, you’ll design delightful, accessible, and empowering experiences for our users. You will use tools such as Figma and Slack to communicate and collaborate effectively.We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. You can work in our Cambridge office or remotely in the UK with occasional travel to Cambridge.Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative visual and UI design with best practice UX thinking, across our range of digital products that meets the needs of our different user groups
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team who are passionate about ensuring our products provide meaningful and engaging experiences which delight our users
  • Put users at the centre of the design process and validate your work by working with user experience researchers to test with users often and be able to iterate based on feedback and insight
  • Clearly communicate ideas to stakeholders through presenting designs, prototypes and design thinking
  • Help improve our ways of working including contributing to the development of our Design System
  • Advocate for accessibility and be guided by the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design code to ensure our products are suitable and safe for young-people and volunteers
  • Work across a variety of the Foundation’s digital products with a huge reach and the ability to have a positive impact on the lives of young people

  • Demonstrable experience of working as a professional digital Product Designer or UI Designer
  • Experience creating detailed finessed UI designs that meet both business aims and user needs
  • Experience working with software engineers to design products that work within technical limitations
  • Understanding of UX research methodologies and how best to test designs with users
  • A proactive and self-starting nature, you should be a problem-solver and like to fix things along with being open to providing and receiving constructive feedback
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to clearly articulate your thinking and present to teams across the organisation
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders
  • An interest in education, especially related to computer science, physical computing, and digital making for young people

Design task: We will also ask you to complete a short task with reasonable notice. You should expect to spend no more than three hours of your time on the task and we will ask you to walk us through your solution during one of the interviews.We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. If successful in the selection process, you will be required to undergo a background check to confirm that you are a suitable person to work with children. Further background checks will be made at regular intervals thereafter.
