The Compliance Section is responsible for ensuring local educational agencies (LEAs) implement all laws and regulations related to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This is done through monitoring special education programs for students with disabilities ages 3-21, in all public schools, providing technical assistance and investigating child complaints.
- Monitor responsible public agencies to assure compliance with state and federal regulations implementing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Assist the Director of the Compliance Section in planning and developing long-term strategies and operations to achieve goals set out in the Missouri State Performance Plan (SPP) for Special Education, Department Strategic Plan, and Commissioner’s Goals.
- Collaborate with other Office staff on the design, implementation, and evaluation of State Performance Plan (SPP) Improvement Activities.
- Collaborate with other Office staff on the implementation and alignment of the State Performance Plan Improvement Activities, Department Strategic Plan and Commissioner’s Goals.
- Participate as a team member/leader in onsite special education monitoring teams.
- Provide technical assistance and training to various constituencies regarding compliance with state and federal regulations implementing Part B of the IDEA.
- Provide assistance to the Part B Assistant Director in the development and review of training and technical assistance materials for Part B of the IDEA.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of section programs and activities.
- Collaborate with section staff, other Office staff, other state agency staff and contractors to plan and implement statewide postsecondary transition activities.
- Lead and/or participate on internal/external committees, counsels, and workgroups, as requested.
- Attend local, regional, statewide, and national meetings related to job responsibilities.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in special education, or equivalent area.
OR
- Four or more years of teaching, coordination, supervision or administration of special education, or related experience that contributes directly to the understanding of activities of this assignment.
