PDFs will carry out research on innovative research projects, with opportunities for career development (publications and/or industry interaction).PDFs will be offered appointments to the staff of the National Research Council on a term basis and will be offered salaries and benefits currently available to Research Officers. Salaries commensurate with experience are taxable and subject to other deductions. As a guide, the current annual PhD recruiting rate is $82,338. In addition PDFs will be allocated a travel fund to support their work.Project TitleCarbon Capture from Canadian Natural Gas for Production of Sustainable and Resilient Asphalt MixThe RoleThe National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a dynamic Postdoctoral Fellow to drive the development and implementation in the area of Asphalt Low-Emission and Resiliency Technology (ALERT). The Fellow will play a critical role in evaluating cutting-edge low-emission and high-performance asphalt binders, particularly those modified with innovative by-products from Canadian natural gas, aimed at enhancing durability and performance in response to climate and traffic stress. Key responsibilities include conducting advanced rheological performance assessments, performing comprehensive life-cycle analyses, and exploring cost-effective solutions to bolster the sustainability and resiliency of Canada’s road infrastructure. Collaborating closely with NRC experts and industry stakeholders, the Fellow will contribute to the advancement of innovative, forward-thinking solutions that address critical challenges in the road sector.   • Fellowships will be for two years contingent on satisfactory progress achieved during the first year.
  • Candidates should have obtained a PhD (or equivalent) within the past three years (PhD received on or after July 1, 2022*) or expect to complete their PhD within 6 months of appointment.
  • Fellows will work in a lab under the direct supervision of an NRC researcher.
