Location
Sugar Sand Park Community Center (Children’s Explorium)
Schedule
Work schedule varies to and will include weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, as well as two (2) evenings a month for special events.
This is not a seasonal position.
20 – 25 hours per week.
General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate paraprofessional work coordinating and presenting science programs to citizens and visitors of all ages. Work is performed under general supervision.
Essential Functions
- Presents science programs, including demonstrations and tours emphasizing science concepts pertaining to the exhibits at the Children’s Science Explorium and Science Playground.
- Interacts with visitors to help them explore and learn from exhibits.
- Provides general oversight of exhibit hall, including record keeping and routine exhibit maintenance.
- Prepares facilities and equipment for programs, including cleaning and storage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- scientific concepts and principles.
Ability to:
- present demonstrations and programs in an exciting and entertaining manner.
- understand audiences and adapt presentations accordingly.
- operate video and audio equipment and computer.
- communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, plus course work in the area of physical science and/or other related educational experience; and
- Experience working with the public and/or working with children. Public speaking experience preferred.
Special Requirements
- Possession of valid State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period.

CITY OF BOCA RATON – BENEFITS SUMMARY
Part-Time Employees
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: To be eligible to receive Paid Leave and to contribute to the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, a part-time employee must have worked at least 1,040 hours in the prior fiscal year
PAID LEAVE: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will receive twelve (12) hours of Paid Leave on October 1st. This Paid Leave shall be used no later than September 30th of that fiscal year or it will be forfeited. These hours may not accumulate and may only be granted with the approval of the employee’s supervisor. This paid leave has no cash value at separation of employment.
MISSION SQUARE 457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: Employees who work a minimum of 1,040 hours per fiscal year will be allowed to participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. The City will not provide any matching funds.
