Created in 1982, Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an independent and impartial international aid organization working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, our actions are focused on responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights. HI was the co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for its role in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and was awarded (October 2016) a prize by the Office of the Presidency in Somaliland for services to Persons with Disabilities.

Humanity & Inclusion started in Somaliland in 1992 by setting up a rehabilitation center in Hargeisa. HI’s strategy in Somaliland is to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities and to engage development actors to promote inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable people at local and national level.

Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is currently planning to implement 22 months humanitarian aid project in Somaliland for IDPs in Togdheer Region; “Rehabilitation, Inclusive Humanitarian Action (IHA), MHPSS & Stimulation Therapy in Crisis-Affected Sub-Saharan Africa (RIMSCASSA) for vulnerable groups, Phase 2.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POSITION

1. Psychological assessment:

  1. In collaboration with Community Mobilizers at project sites, evaluate the needs of people identified with psychosocial and psychological issues using standardized assessment tools.

2. Providing mental health and psychosocial services:

  • Answer to internal referrals for further psychological assessment and intervention.
  • In collaboration with community mobilizers, provide psychological support at the individual / family level. This includes regular individual counselling, group counselling, and family counselling.
  • Refer beneficiaries with other support to external services and follow-up on all referrals.
  • Conduct training internally and externally to community mobilizers, community leaders, and other actors on PFA and MHPSS support when needed under supervision of MHPSS TO.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessment
  • Plan and implement community awareness activities and focus group discussions as directed by the project manager.

3. Documentation and reporting:

  • Ensure daily quantitative and qualitative reporting in line with the project’s standard operating procedures.
  • Report on a weekly basis about activities planned and implemented.
  • Analyse and report on beneficiaries’ psychological and psychosocial status.
  • Complete intake forms “assessment form, follow up form, discharge, and monitoring form” for the beneficiaries and manage beneficiary data according to data protection protocols
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports to line manager.
  • Compile any other reports upon request of the line manager.

Qualifications and professional experience needed

  • Degree in Psychology or Counselling is required
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, specifically persons with disabilities
  • Experience in related work within an NGO or organization in emergency or post-conflict setting
  • At least 3 years of Experience in community-based psychosocial support and counseling
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating community trainings
  • Willingness and ability to work among IDP, displaced populations
  • Good knowledge of community mobilization methods and tools
  • Fluency in English is preferred and fluency in local language is required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and to cope with stress and high pressure
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team
  • Ability to work with partners(local and international actors)
  • Knowledge of the principles of referrals mechanisms and pathways
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) for reporting
