Position Overview:

The specialist in the regional security management unit provides technically proficient security support to Chemonics’ staff and projects, as directed. The specialist is responsible for regional security initiatives and projects and refines and improves programs and procedures to maximize the safety and security of Chemonics staff in the assigned region. Responsibilities:

  • Works to achieve operational targets with a significant impact on project safety and security and departmental results
  • Manages safety and security processes, standards, and operational plans throughout the region
  • Responsible for a full understanding of and makes improvements to existing safety and security processes and systems to enhance performance and mitigate identified risks
  • Takes leadership role in advancing safety and security internally and externally
  • Undertakes short-term technical assignments to the region in support of safety and security strategy, policy, and procedures
  • Maintains a deep subject matter expertise on safety and security risks and vulnerabilities throughout the designated region
  • Monitors, assesses, and analyzes regional security trends through open-source reporting and field security engagement and shares this knowledge with relevant field and home office departments, projects, and external stakeholders
  • Regularly reports to project leadership, staff, support units, and field staff to communicate regional safety and security risks or emerging issues
  • Supports the visible and continual awareness of and focus on employee safety and security in the region
  • Manages the security management response to regional emergencies or crises by working with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate efforts and to ensure that all crisis responses efforts have timely, accurate information on the security and risk situation as it develops to reduce the impact on staff, operations, and reputation
  • Works closely with field offices to ensure all regional safety and security incidents are reported and responded to accurately and timely, and develops guidance and mitigation measures to prevent incident recurrence
  • Supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of regional project’s security platforms, assessing the specific needs of the context, threats, project vulnerabilities, and identified risks
  • Coordinates with other departments, units, stakeholders, and individuals to ensure that projects and personnel maintain the proper safety and security procedures in accordance with client and Chemonics policies
  • Supports the development of all relevant project security assessments, action plans, recommended mitigation measures, and evaluation material, and liaises with field security staff to ensure all projects comply with designated security requirements
  • Reviews all new business opportunities to identify key regional risks, access limitations, complex technical areas, and recommended security platform, including defining all staffing and budgetary requirements
  • Ensures travelers are researching the risk environment through the information security provider before travel or fielding and delivers pre-departure briefings to designated regional locations
  • Coordinates with regional staff on travel and fielding processes and staff tracking through internal tools and resources and engaging with external partners
  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring, and monitoring of regional security management unit associates, safety and security focal points, and field security staff, as needed, ensuring personnel selected meet appropriate requirements
  • Backstops field security staff and serves as acting security management unit director, as needed
  • Provides technical support to security subcontract procurement, management, and administration for new and ongoing projects and new business development needs
  • Supports the capacity development of the security management unit associate and designated regional staff in core safety and security technical skills
  • Designs and leads relevant safety and security trainings for regional staff through one-on-one mentoring, small group trainings, and information dissemination
  • Ensure effective security management of Chemonics-occupied work space and actively serve as a floor warden
  • Actively engages in internal or external professional associations and represents company at conferences, educational workshops, industry meetings, and through personal networking in the security industry

Requirements:

  • Requires deep knowledge within security or project management typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of operational, risk, and project management and/or technically relevant work experience.
  • Relevant university degree (BA/BS) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous working experience with development projects under USAID, USG, and/or Global Fund preferred.
  • Knowledge of and previous working experience with supply chain management and/or security providers beneficial.
  • Experience living, working, researching, or managing projects and/or staff in the relevant region is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise department staff, multiple project teams, and other initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings.
  • Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and manage significant activities, budgets and resources to produce and take responsibility for results.
  • Demonstrated ability in implementing security platforms for civilian operations in conflict zones, to include successful crisis management.
  • Willingness to work overseas for up to 4-8 weeks per year and to consider long-term overseas assignments.
  • Ability to solve complex technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Planner, and PowerBI.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated independent thinking, judgment, and respect for others.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
  • Fluent French language skills are strongly preferred. Other foreign language proficiency is beneficial.

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $78,800 – $98,500.

An employee’s pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.

Overtime exemption status may change due to state regulatory requirements.
