Job Description
A civil engineering firm is seeking a Civil Design Engineer (Level 1 or Level 2) to join their team. This role involves assisting in the design of civil and construction projects, primarily focusing on roadway site design and water/waste water. This person will be managing various civil projects throughout San Diego, the City of Dana Point, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a team of engineers to assist with grading, utility, and improvement plans.
Prepare estimates for quantities and costs of materials.
Analyze surveys, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
Compile and submit permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and standards.
Assist in the preparation of hydrology reports, water quality management studies, SWPPS, water and sewer studies, EMRAS, and other engineering documents.
Assist in the design of energy-efficient or environmentally sound civil structures.
Lead and support interns and CAD technicians on projects.
Engage in regular communication with the City of Dana Point, enhancing project management and collaboration.
LOCATION:
Main Office: San Diego, CA 92131
Staff Aug (2 days per week): This position will require onsite work at Dana Point typically for 2 days per week, with potential for a 3rd hybrid day. SEE ADDITIONAL NOTES BELOW.
SCHEDULE:
Monday – Thursday: 9-hour shifts (typically starting at 7 AM)
Fridays: Half days
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The firm provides a vehicle for travel to Dana Point, covering gas, lunch, and adjusting hours to avoid traffic. While seat time is 7.5 hours, billing is for a full 9 hours due to travel.

Skills and Requirements
1-4+ years of professional experience and proficiency in Civil 3D CAD on civil/construction-focused projects, such as water/wastewater and land development (public infrastructure, grading, curb ramps, etc.).
Engineer Level 2: EIT required.
Engineer Level 1: EIT highly preferred but not required; a proven drive and motivation to advance in the career, with a plan to get an EIT is essential.
Experience with roadway site design, including street grading and gutter pans, with an understanding of standard plans and city-specific nuances.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (civil, environmental, mechanical engineering, etc.).
Proficiency in Civil 3D. Experience with water and wastewater projects.
Familiarity with Auto Turn (a program compatible with Civil 3D).
Basic knowledge of ArcGIS. null
