This position sits in the Chief Statistician’s Office. Under the supervision of the Statistics & Monitoring Specialist (P4), the Statistics and Monitoring Officer (P2), Nutrition will support improving the quality, relevance, availability and use of data and contextual information on children and women throughout UNICEF. UNICEF maintains global databases on a large number of nutrition indicators and convenes partners and experts to review and provide technical guidance on nutrition monitoring in several areas as child malnutrition, infant and young child feeding etc. The main functions of this job are to support data collection, analyses and database management of nutrition related indicators of primary concern to UNICEF, including with quality assurance of data; to assist in the analysis of core nutrition outcome and intervention coverage results in the MICS and DHS and other nationally representative surveys and some programme monitoring data; disseminating findings through different types of media (e.g. website and reports); and to support other interagency related activities. Work responsibilities will be performed in close collaboration with all Unit team members as well as other staff in the section and the division, UNICEF’s Programme Group, other UN agencies, organizations, and inter-agency groups. In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Data collection, compilation, analysis and quality assurance
- Capacity development and country support
- Data dissemination and advocacy
- Partnerships and representation
- Software and IT tools
- Data Workflow Methodologies – from data collection to publication
- Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Health Administration, Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, Statistics, Economics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Public Health, Public Policy, Social Sciences and any other related fields. An advanced University degree (master’s or higher) is considered a strong asset.
- At Least 2 years of relevant work experience in Nutrition, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Infant and Young Child Feeding, Monitoring, Data Collection, Data Analysis, Database Management, Data Dissemination, Data Analysis, Data Collection, Database Management.
- Nutrition data, Statistical programming, Statistical Software (Stata, SPSS, or R)
- Fluency in English is required.
