JOB DESCRIPTION
Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
The Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action Programme of the Regional office for Arab States work closely with United Nations, government, and civil society partners to increase the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325. UN Women has been working with governments, UN partners and civil society to support women’s participation and influence at all levels of decision making to prevent and resolve conflicts in the Arab region and to ensure gender inclusion in humanitarian action.
Reporting to the Regional Advisor on WPS/HA with matrix reporting lines to the Regional Communication Specialist, the graphic designer will lead the design and development of visual communication materials related to UN Women’s WPSHA efforts in the Arab States Region. The Consultant will ensure that all materials adhere to UN Women’s corporate branding and style guidelines and contribute to a cohesive and integrated approach to WPSHA communication within the Regional Office.
Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work
Provide support to the implementation of the communications and advocacy initiatives of the WPS/HA team and the Regional Office for Arab States:
- Design and create layout knowledge and visibility products for UN Women studies, manuals, toolkits, policy briefs, booklets, newsletter, reports, leaflets, bulletins, flyers and info graphs according to corporate branding and style guidelines;
- Design new, and update existing social media banners, cards, content etc. to reflect corporate branding and style guidelines.
Develop high-quality communication material and designs for the WPS/HA Team and the Regional Office:
- Conceptualize and create engaging, user-centered communication material that capture attention and drive engagement;
- Develop innovative design layouts and high-quality visuals for publications, factsheets, policy briefs, and other promotional and informational material produced by the regional office;
- Develop templates and visual tools to accommodate content for social media platforms, publications, and event visibility;
- Use design software and tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Canva, or similar applications) to create high-quality designs, including brochures, posters, reports, and presentations.
Ensure integration and consistency across communications efforts
- Working closely with the WPS Unit, the Regional Communications Team, and other relevant units, to develop consistent messaging and a unified visual identify on communications material developed by the WPS/HA team and the Regional Office.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Functional Competencies:
- Ability to create, edit and present information in clear and presentable formats, using appropriate IT functionality;

Required Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- Completion of secondary education is required;
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or another related field is required.
Experience:
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in providing support to the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans via the development of graphic design communication; or another related field is required;
- Experience in the use of computers applications and software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) as well as web based management systems; is desirable.
- Experience in the use of social media and digital communications is desirable.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
