WRI India is seeking a Program Manager for the Integrated Urban Planning work housed in the Urban Development team under the WRI India Ross Centre for Sustainable Cities. With their knowledge of Indian urbanism, environmental design and comparative experience of challenges and best practice solutions from other developing countries, the candidate will support integrated urban planning projects advancing WRI’s vision to promote sustainable and resilient urban development across Indian cities. We are looking for a candidate who is self-driven, energetic and agile, willing to respond quickly, outcome-oriented, team player, willing to travel at short notice and able to engage with partners and stakeholders. The candidate will be involved in integrated urban planning projects, addressing associated aspects of urban water resilience with a specific focus on flood resilience, integrated water management, and the rejuvenation of natural water ecosystems. The candidate should show proficiency in conducting research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, liaising with partners, government agencies and experts, and prepare clearly written reports and communication material.

Currently, WRI India is supporting various government and private agencies to undertake research on best practices and innovation in integrated planning, development and management of cities. The urban development projects you will be involved in, will help further these goals.
How your day will unfold:
- You will undertake and oversee a range of responsibilities for the Urban Development team as listed below.
- Co-ordination of project work
- Provide technical advisory to project teams and stakeholders, ensuring the alignment of project goals with organisational objectives.
- Support project deliverables as per standards and expectations of WRI India.
- Prepare technical documents for projects including data collection, conduct surveys, compilation, analysis, report writing and presentation development.
- Lead the creation and conceptualisation of projects, including formulating proposals, design methodologies and identifying funding opportunities.
- Coordinate with State and Local government agencies, private companies, local communities, experts, NGOs, and other stakeholders to gather inputs and foster collaboration for project implementation.
- Edit reports, prepare drawings, generate graphics and infographics to support project communication and dissemination.
- Support WRI India in identifying and undertaking new research areas and innovative projects related to urban development as required by the team.
Communication and outreach:
- Communicate closely with WRI India internal team members towards meeting objectives of the project and constant progress reporting.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings regarding projects, make presentations and assist in conducting stakeholder consultations.
- Contribute to internal and external communications and media such as blogs, articles, brochures and web content.
Research:
- Support development of process guides, toolkits and/or support the adaptation of existing ones.
- Incorporate and support attention to gender and poverty.
Qualifications and Requirements we seek:
- Post-graduation in environmental planning/ urban planning/ hydraulic engineering/ infrastructure planning/ public policy/ or related field.
- Minimum master’s degree and 7-10 years of full-time work experience.
- Familiarity with Indian urban development paradigms, policies, general awareness of environment and climate change.
- Experience of working with government stakeholders is a strong plus
- Specialization or work experience demonstrated in the areas of urban flood risk mitigation, and execution of nature-based solutions
- Understanding of hydrology and water sensitive design is a strong plus
- Proficiency in spatial data analysis using remote sensing tools is a strong plus
- Comfort in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to work both individually and alongside a team; also, ability to enthusiastically work under short deadlines and deliver quality work.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
