We are seeking an Aerospace Risk Administrator to be a part of our risk management support team at NASA Langley Research Center, assisting aerospace projects in aeronautics, space technology, and science making risk-informed decisions.

This role is part of a larger Langley-based, cross-functional team that has built a reputation of high performance and superior support for our government customer through shared knowledge, innovation, collaboration, and technical expertise. This risk support will be working in-person on a team at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

Additional responsibilities will be dependent on the candidate. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to support at least one additional activity: quality assurance by coordinating audits with the Safety & Mission Assurance organization or cross-train as a program analyst working as an embedded part of a financial team. Both of these opportunities offer the candidate the chance to upskill in related organizations that will help them achieve higher levels of risk management support during their career supporting NASA.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing multiple project risk registers simultaneously by collaborating with risk owners to initiate, update, and track mitigation plans; includes review of deadlines and due dates for mitigation activities.
  • Coordinates and organizes risk working groups and boards; prepares reports for these as well as center, program, and mission directorate deliveries.
  • Participates in risk discussions, providing inputs based on NASA and Center risk management best practices.
  • Facilitating collaborative discussions to extract project insights of lessons learned, submitting final documentation to the Institutional Knowledge Management (IKM) system.
  • Prepare documentation for project milestones including risk management plans, risk status presentations for readiness reviews, auditing mitigation plans, and compiling supporting documentation for risk acceptance.
  • Produces high quality work independently; provides clear communication and contribution to the customer and contract team.
  • Implements new processes, skills, and efficiencies to benefit the customer and with the review/guidance of a senior mentor.

Responsibilities for Additional Opportunities:

Supporting Safety & Mission Assurance Audits

  • Plan and conduct internal quality audits including development of audit checklists, scopes, and plans based on Center procedures and requirements
  • Conduct interviews and site visits with process administrators and stakeholders;

collect and analyze data to determine conformity to AS9100 and Management System requirements

  • Document and report audit findings; present findings to organization directors and project team leaders, track implementation of corrective actions and verify effectiveness
  • Manage corrective action processes from initiation through closeout upon successful resolution

Supporting Program Analysis

  • Conduct labor analyses, prepare financial plans, review phasing and obligation plans to ensure optimal fund utilization, analyze current and projected resource needs to provide budget recommendations
  • Manage project funding coordination and allocation by working with partner centers, allocating funds according to project spending plans, monitoring fund utilization to ensure project continuity during budget uncertainties
  • Support financial review and administration of the travel management processes including allocations of funding, track travel expenditures against project budgets

Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills, able to identify finite details as well as see the bigger picture
  • Microsoft Office skills (including PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excels at written and verbal communication, and have the ability to work successfully with researchers, engineers, and business teams.
  • For the quality assurance opportunity, knowledge of AS9100 quality management system standards
  • Individual must meet government NAC and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA LaRC. Extensive background investigation will be performed as a requirement of the job

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2-4 years of relevant experience or 6 years of relevant experience without a bachelor’s degree.
  • NASA and/or government contracting experience is desired.
  • Relevant military and/or aviation experience is a plus.
