Key Responsibilities:
Pumping Test Technician
Purpose of the position:
To facilitate the construction of water supply systems in communities and institutions in Ghana
Major Responsibilities:
- Conduct pumping test on both existing and new boreholes
- Sample boreholes and properly labelled for water quality analyses
- Dismantling and installation of all approved hand pumps in Ghana
- Undertake plumbing works and supervise pipe laying and coupling of HDPE pipes
- Support in the implementation of innovative designs and technologies which will be introduced
- Facilitate and report (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually) on WASH activities implemented
- Ensure that required quantities of materials such as HDPE pipes and fittings requested are utilized on the field and the remaining returned to stores
- Facilitate communication between Supervisor and beneficiary communities or institution to ensure that targets are met.
- Ensure that WV vehicle and other equipment such as generator and submersible pumps function properly.
- Ensure implementation of Audit and Risk Assessment recommendations in WASH projects and their impact areas within operational areas
Knowledge / Qualifications for the Role
Required Professional Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years working experience in the water supply industry or similar position in a previous employment
- Fair knowledge about the type of hand pumps certified for installation in Ghana
- Undertake plumbing works such as coupling of HDPE pipes and installation of submersible pump
Required Education, Training, License, Registration and Certification:
- Higher National Diploma in Geological engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geological Sciences, Certificate in National Vocational Training Institute Level II, or any related qualification.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:
Good communication skills
Good human relationships in order to relate well with artisans and communities
Ability to drive
Computer literate
Ability to work with little supervision
Adapt to new innovation
Teachable and learns quickly when introduced to new concepts and designs
Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement:
- Field based and less than 10% in the office
- Travel: 20% Domestic/international travel is required.
- On call: 25%
Language Requirements:
English and ability to speak in local dialects such as Twi, Ga, Ewe, etc.
