The ED CMA/MA performs routine patient care support duties in the Emergency Department to assist medical and/or or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients to expedite throughput and patient care. This role functions within the ED under the direction of the ED Physician and/or ED APP and the ED resource nurse. The CMA/MA is responsible for maintaining equipment, supplies, and providing patient care under the direct supervision of the medical and nursing staff.
Qualifications
Certifications: Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) – American Allied Health (AAH); Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) – American Medical Technologists (AMT); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) within 6 months – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), education: H.S. Diploma/GED, Work experience: 1 year+ preferred
Responsibilities
Rooming patients: collecting pertinent information regarding chief complaint, vitals and medication reconciliationPatient Education or Instructions: Using pamphlets, brochures or handouts as directed by RN or Provider to reinforce education provided by Provider or RN.May call non-narcotic scripts to pharmacy/new prescription substitutionsAccepting telephone, verbal or written orders. Must follow Order Mode/Entry policy. Provider authentication (co-signature) of order must occur.Fill out forms: ex: FMLA, DOT, IPPE, AWV, etc.Venipuncture for Specimen CollectionProcess CLIA Waived lab test (site specific per service line)Simple Wound Care (Wound to be assessed by RN or Provider prior to care) *A simple wound is a break in the continuity of the skin limited in depth at the sub-cutaneous fatty tissue, that does not affect the underlying structures (muscle, bone, joints, major arteries, nerves, tendons) and without significant loss of tissue. Administration of saline solutions for simple wound irrigationProcedural consent witness & complete procedure time out formCleaning of instruments/equipmentObtain fetal heart tonesApplication of slings/splints under provider direction/supervisionSutures wounds in non-cosmetic areas under provider direction/supervision. Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $19.62per hour – $31.78per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
