The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, located on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, encourages applications for the Lighting Supervisor position for the 2026 CSF Season! This position will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.

The 2026 CSF season begins in May 2026, and responsibilities for these positions will continue through mid-July 2026. There will be some remote responsibilities beginning in March / April 2026, depending on need and availability.

For over 60 seasons, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival has delighted audiences with classic theatre under the stars.

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958, the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education, and community engagement.

CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging, and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists.

Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the newly renovated Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and Roe Green Theatre indoors. The festival’s education programs reach tens of thousands of school children each year through camps, classes and outreach performances that connect them with the continuing tradition and importance of live theatre and Shakespeare.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

• Oversee electrical installation, maintenance, and repair for all lighting equipment.
• Engineer all lighting systems.
• Consult with the CSF Production Manager and contracted season lighting designers on the feasibility of designs.
• Supervise and direct CSF Production Electrician(s).
• Schedule and supervise all lighting load-in, work, notes, and focus calls.
• Engineer and install all set / stage lighting equipment (set electrics).
• Install and maintain run lights and backstage safety lighting systems.
• Collaborate with the sound department to ensure efficient system installation across departmental lines.
• Train and supervise staff with varying abilities to operate in both theaters.
• Monitor team safety, morale, and quality control and communicate regularly with the CSF Technical Director and CSF Production Manager to strategize solutions and ensure that electrics operations are properly resourced.
• Assist across department lines as designated by the CSF Production Manager.
• Adhere to the policies set forth in the CSF Standard Access and Locking Procedures.
• This position reports directly to the CSF Production Manager.

Physical Demands:

• This position performs a variety of physical tasks including but not limited to climbing, stooping, pushing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pulling.
• This position works at height in locations including but not limited to catwalks, grids, ladders, vertical truss towers and horizontal truss spans, and Genie lifts.
• This position performs a variety of physical tasks while wearing safety equipment including body harness, hardhat, ear protection, and safety glasses.
• This position pushes, pulls, lifts, and moves up to 50 lbs. at times on a repetitive basis.
• This position uses manual dexterity in the operation of tools.

Working Conditions and Environment:

• This position works in a variety of environments, including but not limited to construction shops, stages, trap rooms, catwalks and grids, warehouses, exposed loading docks, and outdoors (rain or shine).
• The working environment may be dirty, noisy, in low light, in high humidity, or in a tight and cramped space.
• This position will be exposed, at times, to potentially hazardous materials and equipment.
• This position will regularly be required to wear PPE during work activities.

The hourly rate for this position is $21.00 to $23.00 per hour.

• At least one (1) year of related experience demonstrating the appropriate abilities is required for all positions.
• Appropriate education will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

What We Would Like You to Have

What We Would Like You to Have

• Teaching / mentoring experience (all manager and supervisor positions).
• At least three years professional experience and/or advanced training in theatrical lighting and electrics.
• Proficiency in industry standard lighting production software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Lightwright, etc)
• Experience with all forms of traditional and contemporary lighting practices including but not limited to ETC Sensor dimming systems, ETC Eos family consoles, DMX / networking systems, use and maintenance of conventional and intelligent lighting equipment (ETC, High End, Chauvet, Martin).
• Experience working in outdoor performance venues.
• Experience climbing / working at heights in a harness.
