About the XRCC and the Application Services Group

The Application Services Group is a dynamic team of technical experts. Together, we ensure that business and engineering applications empower our users and support the organization’s core missions. From software development to immersive technologies, our team thrives at the intersection of creativity and functionality.
The XRCC team explores virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (collectively “XR”), along with other immersive technologies such as haptic feedback and virtual production.

What You’ll Do

As an intern in the XRCC, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful applications and creative user experiences, working on projects that align with your specific area of study and interest. You’ll gain experience with professional tools, engage in meaningful work, and collaborate with colleagues dedicated to making a difference.

Opportunities exist for students pursuing careers in:

• Software Development & Engineering: Designing, building, and optimizing innovative applications.
• Immersive Technology: Exploring virtual, augmented, and mixed reality to create innovative user experiences.
• 3D & Real-Time Graphics: Creating digital models of objects and environments to visualize realistic scenarios.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you…

• Are pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Game Design/Development or other related degree.
• Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Are motivated, curious, and eager to tackle real-world challenges in a collaborative setting.
• Have a passion for thinking outside the box and bringing innovation into your everyday work.
• To access APL’s facilities and networks, US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

• Have prior experience or coursework in the fields of software development, immersive technology, computer graphics, or game design & development
• Have experience with generative AI tools, machine learning, or similar technologies.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
