The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a teacher in a Catholic school, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students, both as a role model and through the various tasks, actions and other responsibilities assigned to the Teacher. The Teacher is a ministerial employee because of the Teacher’s role as both a representative of the Church and as a communicator of the Church’s message to the children entrusted to the Church’s care.
The Teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The Teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The Teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education. The Teacher is a representative of the Archbishop of Chicago, effectuating his ministry of Catholic education and the religious teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church at the level of the local school.
The School of St. Mary, located in Lake Forest, Illinois, is a three-time blue-ribbon award-winning Catholic School serving students from many north suburban communities. Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Student Services, the licensed Special Education teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with diagnosed disabilities. The Special Education teacher is also responsible for creating a positive learning environment with emphasis on individualized instruction using research-based strategies and materials in conjunction with evaluating, assessing, and reporting student progress. The special education teacher works cooperatively with each student’s teachers and with our team of special education professionals in the identification of students who may need to be evaluated for services or who may need to have their plans adjusted. The Special Education teacher is an advocate for the child, ensuring that classroom accommodations and modifications are being implemented in the general education classroom. Finally, the Special Education teacher participates in problem-solving team meetings, meetings with the Director of Student Services, domains and eligibility meetings, and planning meetings. annual reviews of students, and fulfills all other assigned duties LBS1 licensing and some experience preferred. This position has an annualized salary range of Lay – $37,000 – $67,000 and Religious – $34,000 – $61,000. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
