The Insolvency Service is a leading Government agency which plays a crucial role in providing essential services to the public and to business. Our Investigation & Enforcement Services Directorate (IES) aims to deliver and promote a range of investigation and enforcement activities both civil and criminal in nature, to tackle financial wrongdoing. We do this by enforcing the statutory company and insolvency regimes, maintaining public confidence in those regimes, and reducing the harm caused to victims of fraudulent activity and to the business community. IES contributes to the agency’s objective of ‘delivering economic confidence’ in the main by ‘tackling financial wrongdoing’ and does so in close cooperation with colleagues from our Official Receiver Services and Legal Services Directorates.

Job description

Part of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, our Investigation Team (North) have 2 posts located in Manchester. These roles deliver quality administrative support to technical staff dealing with investigations of civil cases. The roles also include contributing to the organisation and management of the teams.

Responsibilities:

The list below is not exhaustive and some of these tasks may not apply specifically to the roles offered.

  • Complete initial actions on investigations.
  • Create accurate, comprehensive notes to confirm actions undertaken.
  • Undertake ad hoc/urgent tasks to be carried out within timescales set by technical staff. For example, provide admin support on visits, analysis, post linking, preparing exhibit bundles, keeping a record of this work.
  • Provide first level analysis of data, which may include HMRC ledgers and bank statements.
  • Ensure prompt action taken on outstanding replies (e.g. issuing reminders) as directed within set deadlines and updating in-house Case Management System notes.
  • Draft letters based on templates as directed.
  • Follow up responses to outstanding correspondence both by phone and in writing.
  • Support the organisation and coordination of face to face events for IES and across the Agency, including meetings and video conferences with internal and external stake holders.
  • Review and manage team mailboxes, and deal with queries, referring these where required for a more detailed response.
  • Produce meeting papers and supporting documents to ensure the efficient and professional delivery of meetings and events.
  • Attend one to one, team and Directorate meetings as required, maintaining action logs and sharing with the relevant teams in a timely manner.
  • Undertaking general administrative duties related to the overall effective working of the directorate and delivery of key priorities.
  • Some travel will be expected to support technical staff and occasional work in other locations.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe.
  • The ability to learn to use in house IT systems including the document management system.
  • The ability to work in a busy and pressured environment, often to tight or conflicting deadlines.
  • An awareness and interest in insolvency and associated legislation.
  • A commitment to build continuous improvement practical knowledge as well as a general commitment to Continuous Professional Development.
