The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Aboveground Storage Tank Technical Review Specialist Trainee to join our team. Under the direction of the Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Section Chief, this position plays a key role in protecting the environment by overseeing the third-party inspection program that prevents releases of regulated petroleum and hazardous substances from aboveground storage tanks. This position is under the direct supervision of the aboveground storage tank unit chief. The purpose of the position is to protect the environment from releases of regulated (petroleum and hazardous) substances from aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) through implementation of the third-party inspection program. In this position you’ll gain knowledge and experience with storage tank regulations, standards and managing program level documentation. You’ll learn to review and interpret inspection reports, technical guidance documents, and fact sheets about ASTs. If this position is filled as an Environmental Trainee, you will participate in a twelve-month combination of on-the-job and formal training designed to prepare you for the duties of a Solid Waste Specialist. Throughout the program, you will build knowledge, skills, and abilities in tank technology-including installation, repair, inspection, and operation-as they relate to the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Program. Upon successful completion of the training period, you will be promoted to Solid Waste Specialist.
