Reporting directly to Dr. Neil Andersson, Director of PRAM, the candidate will contribute to the strategic development of, identify and fulfill needs for additional expertise, oversee the implementation of existing projects, and resolve/troubleshoot research issues that arise. The candidate will initiate and maintain collaborations with other entities and identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities, (e.g. tri-council funding agencies.)The candidate will provide leadership, professional guidance and advice to the PRAM research group focusing on intercultural applications of participatory research and will contribute to or lead the scientific content of relevant grant applications. They will also design and lead research in participatory modeling, including fuzzy cognitive mapping, developing interactive protocols and software to support AI/ML algorithms, incorporating fuzzy logic, Hebbian and population-based learning, and/or recurrent neural networks. Additionally, they will assist with the supervision of graduate students.Required Education:

  • PhD in Family Medicine and Primary Health Care or a related field.

Required Experience:A minimum of 8 years in research, research coordination and participatory methods is required. Experience in conducting research and leading partnerships focused on disenfranchised or marginalized groups is crucial. This includes, but is not limited to, research on cultural safety of services for Indigenous Peoples, human trafficking, youth violence, self-harm, and participatory prevention of dementia. Candidates should have experience in grant preparation and management, be proficient in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research with an emphasis on epidemiology and have a strong publication record in participatory research methods.Other qualifying skills and abilities

  • Experience in training in advanced participatory methods.
  • Experience in intercultural participatory research and partnerships.
  • Active research partnerships with academic institutions and community organizations.
  • Knowledge of the general principles of Indigenous health research and methodologies.
  • Ability to manage research projects and teams both autonomously and collaboratively are also required.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience with online learning management systems.
  • Attention to detail and priority setting.
