Description

The School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for position(s) as Adjunct Instructor in Architectural Design in the Bachelor of Architecture Program (BArch). We are looking for qualified candidates to teach, as part of a team, core architectural design studios. These studios are coordinated by full time faculty members and follow a common syllabus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of all aspects of the design process and a flexibility to teach basic design and comprehensive design studios. The basic design studios (Poiesis 1,2 & 3) focus on building students’ design competencies in architectural conventions, spatial design and programmatic organization. Comprehensive design studios (Praxis 1,2 & 3) focus on complex programming, context awareness, site design integration of systems. Responsibilities for faculty in a core studio include teaching studio sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 – 4:50, meeting with the coordinator prior to the start of the semester and on a weekly basis during the semester, attending all scheduled studio reviews, conducting mid-semester/end of semester individual meetings with your students, participating in mid-semester/end of semester grade meetings and providing written comments for each student to your coordinator.


Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate one or more of the following

  • A terminal degree in Architecture (e.g., Bachelor and/or Master of Architecture)
  • At least 5 years of professional practice experience in architectural design
  • Architecture Licensure
  • University-level teaching experience-either full-time, adjunct, or visiting scholar-at the undergraduate or graduate levels
