Closing Date: February 19, 2025Job Summary;The Ellen and Martin Prosserman Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, located within Toronto General Hospital, is a leading institution dedicated to the diagnosis, management, and research of neuromuscular conditions. Our specialized team provides comprehensive care for a wide range of disorders, including myasthenia gravis, diabetic neuropathy, inflammatory neuropathies, and muscular dystrophies. We offer both outpatient and selected inpatient consultations. Our clinic is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, such as nerve conduction studies, electromyography, and muscle biopsy procedures, to facilitate accurate assessments. As part of the University Health Network and affiliated with the University of Toronto, we are committed to providing exceptional patient care advancing neuromuscular research.Duties:The Medical Secretary utilizes knowledge of medical terminology and exercises judgment or decision-making to provide secretarial and clerical services, in support of professional/medical personnel, including: providing word processing/typing services for assigned personnel; performing reception responsibilities; maintaining written and/or electronic calendars/schedules; administering information billing procedures and budgeting records; providing support with small and/or informal meetings/events; maintaining and modifying confidential medical electronic/paper filing/retrieval methods, systems, and/or processes/requests; maintaining and providing clerical assistance for designated position(s); ensuring the efficient operation of the office; formatting; providing functional supervision to lower classified positions, as required; ensuring the efficient operation of the office; performing other related clerical activities; performing cross-functional responsibilities, as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade XII or recognized equivalent
  • Completion of recognized medical secretarial arts program at the diploma level or equivalent
  • Completion of a medical terminology course
  • Previous on-the-job MS Word fluency is required
  • Two (2) years related medical secretarial experience
  • Solid dicta typing and transcription is a must
  • Solid working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Very good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a productive team member
  • Experience working in a teaching, research-oriented environment is preferred
