Job description

Proud to serve. Proud to keep justice going.

Our Admin Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support to Court users, Judiciary and Management.

About us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our Court users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice. If you are interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.

Your role

Our administrative teams are the core of our National Business Centres (NBCs), delivering great customer service to enable Justice. You will be working in our War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber, responsible for handling appeals by current and former servicemen or women in England and Wales against decisions by Veterans UK in relation to pensions, compensation and other amounts.

You’ll register new appeals onto our tribunals database, issue tribunal directions, progress cases, list appeals and arrange Judicial office holders to hear appeals. You may also be asked to clerk a virtual hearing on our video hearing platform. This involves assisting customers and Judiciary in preparing for a hearing and commencing a hearing promptly.

You will have the confidence to liaise with Judiciary, legal representatives and service users and be able to adapt your verbal and written communication style in an empathetic and patient manner.

Your skills and experience

With a friendly and approachable manner, you’ll have good written and verbal communication skills with a desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers. You’ll have great attention to detail, able to enter information into our database accurately and efficiently, and able to adapt to using various software packages. You’ll enjoy organising your time, prioritising efficiently and multi-tasking in a busy environment.
