JOB SUMMARY
The Advocacy and Communication Officer is responsible for managing advocacy initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and external communications to increase awareness and support for the organization’s work. This role involves coordinating media outreach, developing compelling content, engaging donors and partners, and organizing events to mobilize resources and raise public awareness.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advocacy & Public Outreach:
• Engage with local authorities, NGOs, and community leaders to raise awareness about key issues.
• Draft and distribute advocacy materials such as success stories, reports, and key messages.
• Represent the organization in external meetings, events, and advocacy forums.
• Organize awareness-raising activities, including community engagement events and workshops.
Fundraising & Campaigns:
• Support online and offline fundraising campaigns.
• Write compelling stories and content for fundraising appeals, donor reports, and grant applications.
• Coordinate crowdfunding efforts, donor engagement activities, and sponsorship outreach.
• Organize fundraising events, networking activities, and partnerships with private sector and institutional donors.
• Track and report on fundraising campaign progress and donor engagement efforts.
Communication & Media Relations:
• Draft press releases, articles, and newsletters for public distribution.
• Manage the organization’s social media platforms and website content.
• Develop creative content (videos, infographics, testimonials) to engage audiences.
• Build relationships with journalists and media outlets to increase coverage.
• Ensure brand consistency in all communication materials.
Event Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:
• Plan and execute advocacy and fundraising events, conferences, and public campaigns.
• Work closely with donors, partners, and stakeholders to maximize impact.
• Assist in preparing speeches, presentations, and key messaging for spokespersons.
• Manage logistics, invitations, and follow-ups for advocacy-related events.
Internal Reporting & Documentation:
• Document success stories and case studies to support advocacy and fundraising efforts.
• Prepare reports on advocacy, media coverage, and fundraising campaign outcomes.
• Coordinate internal communication efforts to ensure program teams are aligned with advocacy and fundraising goals.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
should have the following skills, education, and experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum [3] years of experience in advocacy, communications, or fundraising.
• Experience in planning and implementing fundraising campaigns.
• Strong writing skills for donor communication, press releases, and digital content.
• Proven ability to manage social media, websites, and multimedia content creation.
• Experience working with journalists, media, and donors.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong storytelling and content creation abilities.
• Ability to engage diverse audiences, including donors and community members.
• Proficiency in digital tools for campaign management (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp, social media analytics).
• Knowledge of fundraising platforms and grant writing is a plus.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
