This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Learning Centre Clerk at a high-profile RAF Base, to support all aspects of Individuals Training and Development and administrative procedures to the Station.

To provide effective and efficient Base support to RAF Northolt in assisting with operations, engagements, and contingency plans. We will do this by working collaboratively, transparently with key stakeholders, and by being operationally focused.

This job is for 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (8 AM to 4 PM) and Friday (8 AM to 3 PM).

Job description

As the Administrative Officer (AO) you are responsible for the administrative support to Force Development Squadron, specifically Training Development and Learning Centre, ensuring the efficiency of these sections is maintained to the highest level at all times.

Post holder’s key responsibilities and tasks 

  • Force Development Squadron. Provide administrative support to all functional areas within the Squadron (Learning Centre, Training Development, Resettlement, Physical Education Flight, and Force Protection Training Flight).
  • Learning Centre. The provision of support to Learning Centre staff for Further Education includes administration of the Open University Scheme, University Short Courses, the Standard and Enhanced Learning Credit Scheme and individuals’ attendance at Local Education Authority Classes.
  • Training development. Provide administrative support to the Station Training Officer for all training development matters. This includes:
  • Classroom Bookings. Responsible for booking classrooms for all FDS run courses and other agencies, including the setting up of IT etc.
  • Responsible for advertising TDF run courses across the Station in an appropriate timeframe including co-ordinating the pre-course nominal role and joining instructions, preparation of the classrooms, building signage, attendance registration forms and evaluation forms.
  • Course Certificates. Responsible for forwarding training course certificates to those individuals who attended TDF run courses.
  • IT Suites. Assist with the daily maintanance of Force Development Squadron IT and 24 hour suite including opening accounts and resolving technical problems which include contacting the contractor HPCDS who maintain the facility.
  • Mail. The Learning Centre Clerk is to collect and distribute Force Development Squadron Official mail.
  • Course Competencies. Assist with the loading of course competencies on to JPA.
  • Act as a second point of contact for Service leavers undergoing the resettlement process, including assisting with the administration of resettlement issues.
  • Physical Education Flight. Provide administrative support to the Flight when required.
  • Force Protection Training Flight. Provide administrative support to the Flight when required.

Person specification

Excellent communication skills are required with an ability to engage with stakeholders, internal and external effectively and articulately. 

Excellent organisation skills in order to be able to manage the multiple different requirements of the post and organisational demands. 

The ability to work at a fast pace whilst producing quality outcomes. 

The Ideal Candidate 

  • IT literate: MS (including Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Communication (verbal and written) skills

The post does not offer relocation expenses. 

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
