Connecticut Children’s Emergency Department is a collaborative team of highly trained and experienced emergency medicine team members that provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary pediatric care to children from birth to 22 years of age. Our 47 bed pediatric ED has an annual volume of approximately 62,000 visits and is designated by the American College of surgeons as a Level 1 Pediatric trauma center. Connecticut Children’s earned the 2023 Best Children’s Emergency Care Award for receiving a perfect score for the level of care and expertise offered in our Emergency Department. CT Children’s hospital is Magnet recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Provides clerical and administrative systems support to promote efficient management of patient care needs. Registers patients by obtaining appropriate patient demographic and financial information, appropriate signatures on all forms or consents, and entering information into computer system. Coordinates communications within and among services; serves as unit receptionist and supports data management. Works under the supervision of the Unit Manager or designee, following established CCMC or unit protocols and procedures.
Obtains appropriate patient demographic and financial information required to process registration of patients; enters information into the appropriate computer system(s). May perform routine verification of insurance, and obtain routine authorization/referrals from payors or providers.
Collaborates with patient care units, operating room and/or ancillary departments as appropriate to assure registration of patients, and efficient flow of appropriate required patient information. Uses internal Referral Specialist to coordinate the referrals to specialists.
Creates and maintains patient records, transcribes and processes orders and routes patient documentation to proper location.
Operates computer system to schedule appointments, process and/or record patient information.
Provides general receptionist and secretarial support. Responds with tact and discretion to the needs of patients and families, and reports needs unable to meet to the Manager or RN.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
May assist the Patient Accounting Department of CCMC/FPP/University Physicians with requests for information regarding insurance denials for no referrals/authorizations.
Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC STANDARDS.
