Summary of Job Duties:This position works closely with various laboratory animal specimens.
The Animal Care Technician (ACT) is an entry-level, hands-on role that supports both animal welfare and critical research efforts on campus. In this position, you’ll provide daily care and husbandry for a variety of animal species, conduct routine health observations, and maintain clean, safe living environments. ACTs also support facility operations by processing caging and equipment, operating automated cage wash systems and sterilizers, and receiving and transporting animal feed and bedding. Working closely with investigators, you’ll assist with animal-related procedures and play an important role in keeping research studies running smoothly.

High School diploma/GED plus one (1) year of experience in a research environment, veterinary clinic, or related field required.
Must obtain the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within 2 years.
Responsibilities:
Performs special requests for investigators and assists veterinary staff as needed.
Schedules and plans room, rack, and hood sanitizing cycles.
Documents sanitation procedures, per the appropriate schedule.
Maintains biosecurity measures by using appropriate containment procedures.
Ensures appropriate disinfectants are in date and used properly.
Follows room logs to ensure daily and weekly SOPs are followed.
Processes animal caging and equipment through cage wash.
Prepares for upcoming change-out procedures, including: caging preparation, bedding dispensing, cage set-ups, water bottle preparation, autoclaving caging, and personal protective equipment preparation, recycling, and restocking.
Receives, transports, and processes feed and bedding.
Changes animal cages as scheduled, or as needed, following standard cage changing techniques. Ensures all cages are properly identified and in compliance with the associated federal and state regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
