The Anticipatory Action, DRR, Resilience, and Climate Specialist position provides strategic leadership for Plan International’s climate change and resilience initiatives in Latin America, promoting climate justice and advancing girls’ rights. The key responsibilities as below:
- Design and adapt resilience programs for Latin America, addressing regional challenges like droughts, floods, and food insecurity, while leveraging Plan’s frameworks such as ‘Pathways to Resilience.’
- Develop and implement tools for anticipatory action, DRR, resilience and climate adaptation.
- Assist country offices in integrating AA, DRR and resilience strategies into programming, with a focus on community-based adaptation and disaster preparedness.
- Ensure all resilience and climate programs prioritize the vulnerabilities of girls, incorporating gender equality in both humanitarian and development contexts.
- Support Country Offices in aligning with the Sendai Framework and other global initiatives to enhance disaster preparedness and response.
- Collaborate with regional and national offices to secure funding from key donors like BHA, ECHO, the UN, and green funds ensuring proposals are gender-transformative and community-focused.
- Lead efforts in designing projects and identifying funding opportunities, emphasizing preparedness for climate-induced extreme weather events.
- Partner with key departments to integrate resilience and gender-transformative practices across programs in the region.
- Ensure programs align with Plan International’s global strategies and frameworks (e.g., GLOSUP, GLAS) while addressing Latin American priorities.
- Lead efforts to integrate resilience strategies into both humanitarian and development initiatives, emphasizing Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP).
- Build alliances with private sector entities, multilateral organizations, and regional governments to advance climate resilience initiatives
- Train Plan International staff on resilience and climate change strategies, ensuring alignment with global frameworks and regional contexts.
- Disseminate best practices and lessons learned to inform future program designs.
- Lead regional research initiatives to support climate resilience programming, collaborating with global teams to address knowledge gaps.
- Maintain and promote regional knowledge-sharing systems, ensuring access to updated resources and innovative approaches.
- Advocate for Plan International’s climate resilience priorities in policy spaces, emphasizing climate justice and girls’ rights.
