THE AGENCY:
The Department of City Planning (DCP) plans for the strategic growth and development of the City through ground-up planning with communities, the development of land use policies and zoning regulations applicable citywide and sharing its perspectives on growth and community needs with sister agencies in collaboration with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

THE DIVISION:
The Population Division is responsible for the compilation, analysis and dissemination of census and related federal, state and local data for city agencies, local communities and the media. It is the city’s hub of expertise in census data analyses and dissemination. Within the Department, the Population Division provides data for a variety of local and citywide planning studies, environmental review analyses and capital planning strategies. The division also provides other city agencies and outside organizations with data to address questions involving needs assessment, program planning and targeting, and policy formulation. This includes the development of current population estimates and short- and long-term population projections.
THE ROLE
The Agency is seeking an Assistant Director to help lead a dynamic and talented team working to ensure that decision-makers stay well-informed about critical aspects of New York City’s diverse sociodemographic landscape. The Assistant Director will have wide latitude for independent decision making, external engagement, and thoughtful leadership. Specific duties include:
ADM CITY PLANNER (NON MGRL) – 1005A
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four (4) years of full-time experience in city planning, at least eighteen (18) months of which must have been in a managerial capacity; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” above. However, a baccalaureate degree and eighteen (18) months of managerial experience in city planning is required of all candidates. Graduate work leading to an advance degree in city planning or related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the non-managerial experience on a year-for-year basis. Graduation from an accredited United States Law School may be substituted for two (2) years of non-managerial
experience.
