The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.As a Clinician-Investigator, you will focus on directing a research program of sufficient calibre to publish in peer-reviewed journals and obtain funding from peer-reviewed agencies. The candidate interested in a Clinician-Investigator position will be expected to devote between 25-50% of their time to research.As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.The candidate should have training in both adult congenital heart disease and heart failure with a specific academic focus in the overlapping populations of adult congenital heart disease and those with heart failure. The adult congenital heart disease clinic at MUHC is one of the largest in the country with both clinical and research expertise which is internationally recognized. As these patients grow older, heart failure is a major co-morbidity and the need to provide advanced care and conduct research in this growing population is a major need for our division.Clinical responsibilities will include attending in both the adult congenital heart disease clinic (MAUDE clinic) and the advanced heart failure clinic, covering sub-specialty calls for both advanced heart failure and adult congenital heart disease, and attending on the general cardiology consult service and in the cardiac intensive care unit. The candidate would also be expected to design and execute a successful research plan in adult congenital heart disease that would have a specific interest in those patients who are at risk of, or are suffering from, heart failure.The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsCandidates must:Hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty training in Cardiology along with sub-specialty training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, and training in Heart Failure;Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Cardiology;Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;Have completed dedicated research training, at or equivalent to a Master’s degree, to successfully pursue a Clinician-Investigator or Clinician-Scientist pathway;Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
