The position is for a Clinician-Scientist with a focus on asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Respiratory Division at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine, our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g., Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding, including a research stipend for protected research time and operating funds, may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.The successful candidate will devote at least 50% of their time to translational, clinical, epidemiologic, translational or quality improvement research in the area of asthma/COPD. The balance of the candidate’s time will be devoted to patient care in asthma/COPD and other areas of Respirology, and to teaching trainees at all levels.The successful candidate will conduct their research at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, within the Respiratory Epidemiology and Clinical Research Unit (Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation) and potentially the Meakins-Christie Laboratories (Centre for Translational Biology).Their clinical work will involve inpatient and outpatient respirology duties at the Montreal Chest Institute/Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen), the Montreal General Hospital, and the Lachine Hospital sites of the McGill University Health Centre.The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsRequired:Candidates must hold an MD degree, and be eligible for, licensure in the Province of Quebec;Hold certification as a respirologist by the Collège des médecins du Québec;By July 2025, candidates must have completed residency training in internal medicine and respiratory medicine, with certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada by January 2026;By their anticipated start date, candidates must have completed at least one year of advanced clinical training in asthma/COPD, or demonstrate equivalent specialized experience and expertise in this area;Candidates for the Clinician-Scientist position must hold or be pursuing advanced research training (i.e., minimum two years with M.Sc. degree in a relevant research area or the equivalent);Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.The earliest start date will be July 2026.
