Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Architectural Design. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members ( ). The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to develop a synthesis between creative design and material innovations. The Daniels Faculty is a multi-disciplinary faculty that includes, in addition to the design disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design, also forestry and visual studies — each discipline is represented in undergraduate, graduate professional, and PhD research programs. We seek candidates whose research and/or creative professional activity, and teaching interests complement and enhance our and will thrive in this multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate should show a strong commitment to engaging in an area of research that addresses the relationship of architectural design to such topics as contemporary technology, ecology, urbanism, and culture.Candidates must have earned a Master’s degree in Architecture (M.Arch with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and/or creative professional activity, and teaching as appropriate for their stage of career.Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research and/or creative professional activity which can be demonstrated by:

  • the submitted research statement,
  • a record of publications in recognized and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards,
  • authored or edited books and book chapters,
  • exhibitions in recognized venues,
  • participation in research projects,
  • presentations at academic conferences,
  • awards and accolades
  • strong endorsements by referees of high standing

The research statement might also include confirmed upcoming events, articles and papers accepted for publication, and ongoing research in progress.Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, as well as strong recommendation letters. Other teaching-related activities can include:

  • Publications in recognized pedagogy journals,
  • Performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor,
  • Examples of student work,
  • Experience in leading successful workshops or seminars,
  • Student mentorship demonstrated in publications authored by students under the candidate’s supervision.

We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated capacity to advance knowledge of speculative and creative forms of architectural design in a way that contributes meaningfully to the diverse population and intellectual milieu at the Daniels Faculty.
