Description
The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is recruiting tenure-track faculty at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor, specializing in Cancer Epidemiology. Individuals specializing in lung, pancreatic, breast, and colon cancer screening, as well as hepatocellular cancer and lymphoma, and those studying health disparities in cancer care and outcomes are of particular interest. It is expected that the candidate will have substantial collaboration and research with both clinical and research faculty at the Wilmot Cancer Center (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute.aspx).
As part of the University of Rochester Medical Center system, the Wilmot Cancer Institute is the largest cancer care provider in the region, serving approximately 3 million people in a 27-county region in western and central New York. Established in 1974, it has a long history of outstanding clinical care and research breakthroughs, including pivotal contributions to the pioneering HPV cancer vaccine, and decisive clinical trials of anti-emetic therapy. Wilmot is the hub for over $30 million/year in cancer-related research and training funding, and is home to one of only two NCI Community Oncology Research Program research bases at an academic medical center. Wilmot features an 87-bed flagship cancer center, 13 outpatient locations, and one of the state’s largest blood and marrow transplant programs. Wilmot is home to the region’s first cancer survivorship clinic, and one of the nation’s first geriatric oncology clinics.
The University of Rochester is well-known for its excellent collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. Other ample opportunities in research, educational, and community-based programs are available in the department as well as through the Aging Institute, Environmental Health Sciences Center, the Del Monte Neuroscience Institute, and the Center for Community Health & Prevention, amongst others. The successful candidate is expected to attract and maintain extramural research support, demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring in the extensive training programs in the Department and University, and expand research partnerships within the university and community. All applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Epidemiology (PhD, ScD, MD or equivalent) or in a closely related field with a strong emphasis on research design and statistical methods, specifically within the area of cancer epidemiology. Applicants should have a minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience, an established record of peer-reviewed publications, and a demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding.
