Campus: University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)Description:The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in environmental chemistry and health. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Chemistry or a closely related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, and must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests will expand and complement our existing . The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Candidates must have expertise in environmental chemistry and in bioanalytical chemistry and/or biological chemistry. We encourage candidates to apply if they have expertise in studying the interactions between chemical contaminants and cells, biomolecules (such as proteins) and/or target organisms using omics approaches, such as exposomics related to health. The candidate is expected to build strong connections with the new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health ( ).Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outline below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. The Chemistry group in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences has particular strengths in the areas of environmental chemistry, biomaterials, biosensing, clean energy materials and nano-bio interactions. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Chemistry program in Department of Physical and Environmental Science and will have opportunities to build new graduate courses. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the graduate core course in environmental chemistry and actively participate in the graduate environmental chemistry program.
