The Department of Land Economy is a leader in its field. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework assessment, 67% of the Department’s research was found to be “World Leading” and a further 31% “Internationally Excellent”, making it the top Department in the field in the UK in Times Higher Education’s ranking.The Assistant Professor in Rural and Agricultural Economics will be expected to undertake research in the fields of agriculture, the environment, economics and society of a quality that accords with the Department’s standards; to identify sources of funding for such research and to build on and expand our network of contacts working in those areas; to teach on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas related to their expertise; and to make a general contribution to the running and management of the Department.We interpret Land Economy broadly, as the multidisciplinary study of how society interacts with the environment, both natural and built. The Department includes lawyers, economists, planners, engineers and public policy, finance and real estate specialists. The Department encourages engagement with public policy and professional practice and thus with the resolution of contemporary problems alongside more fundamental analysis.As currently constituted, the Department of Land Economy dates back to 1961. It is a self-governing academic department within the University’s School of the Humanities and Social Sciences. It currently employs around 60 academic staff, including nine full professors.
