Information Systems (Assistant Professor)

The Department of Management in the College of Business at The University of Akron invites applications for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Information Systems. The position will commence Fall 2025.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching courses in analytics and information systems at the undergraduate and master’s levels. The applicant must conduct scholarly research where the output of such research is high quality publications, and provide service to the department, college, university, and academic community. Preferred areas of expertise are the following: information systems, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. Other specialty areas related to analytics and information systems may be considered.

Required Qualifications: 

• A Ph.D. in Information Systems or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, as evidenced by publications, working papers, or research projects, with a focus on Information Systems.
• Strong commitment to effective and innovative teaching, with strong technical and communication skills.
• Ability to teach data management, systems development and integration, cloud security, data analytics, and other information systems related courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to teach data management, systems development and integration, cloud security, data analytics, and other information systems related courses.
• Technical and business skills in object-oriented development methodologies
• Skills in business implementation of information systems, with an emphasis on solutions delivery as well as platform and data governance
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment.
• Commitment to contributing to the academic and professional community through service and engagement.

Compensation: The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

The Department of Management is one of five departments in the College of Business (including Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Marketing). There are five undergraduate majors offered by the department: Human Resource Management, Information Systems Management, Supply Chain and Operations Management, Sport Analytics and Sport Business. In addition, there are two graduate degrees associated with the Department including the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) graduate degree and the Masters of Science in Management (MSM), with tracks in Supply Chain Management and Information Systems Management. 

The department currently has fourteen PhDs and three full-time instructors with areas of expertise that cover the range of courses offered. The Management Department also includes the Center for Information Technologies and Analytics (CITA). CITA was created with the mission to teach students and develop faculty in the principles and practices of the related disciplines of Information Technology and Business Analytics. providing resources to conduct research to faculty, and conducting several outreach activities that promote IT and analytics among local companies.
