The Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) Department in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a unique tenure-track Assistant Professor rank position slated to begin during the 2025-2026 academic year. This position has a ‘dual’ appointment as the Health Data Science Program Manager with the Center of Health Systems Innovation (CHSI).
OSU’s MSIS Department has a unique blend of faculty, students and staff, delivering innovative academic programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level, producing impactful and high quality research, and providing outstanding service to the profession, the university, the college and the community.
The Department has a long tradition of research and instructional programs in the data sciences. Faculty have published some of the top-cited research papers in decision support systems and business intelligence/data analytics history and continue this publishing excellence today, especially in the health analytics area. The Department also partners with OSU’s Center for Health Sciences and the Center of Health Systems Innovation (CHSI) in delivering graduate programs and certificates, and conducting applied research, in health informatics and health care analytics. It is this partnership that makes the position unique.
The selected applicant will have a reduced teaching load with the commitment to serve as the Health Data Science Program Manager with the Center of Health Systems Innovation (CHSI). The required academic background for the position includes being well trained in data science tools, specifically machine learning, text mining, prescriptive analytics, and other deep learning approaches. It is strongly desired that the applicant will also have a background in health analytics.
The applicant will support the course offerings in the advanced analytics areas of the M.S in Business Analytics and Data Science degree program, the MS in MIS program and perhaps undergraduate classes in applied artificial intelligence. Additionally, the required research background would include substantive research experience and/or publications in health-related domains.
In addition, the candidate in the role as Health Data Science Program Manager will work closely with the CHSI Executive Director, the Research Director, and the Medical Director to initiate, coordinate, and execute a variety of health analytics projects and mentor and manage the CHSI analytics team members for the Center for Health Systems Innovation’s strategy. Applicants should have an innovative mindset and be willing to support and participate in departmental, college and CHSI initiatives as needed.
To be considered for the position, the preferred applicant will have completed a Ph.D. in MIS or related area from an AACSB-accredited university. Those close to finishing their degree (e.g., ABD status) will also be considered. Applicant screening will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. All positions are contingent upon available funding.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and academic qualifications. The appointment is a tenure-track position and the normal personnel process of the SSB and OSU applies.
