This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.McGill University is an internationally renowned Canadian institution, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.The DGPH, as one of three departments in the School of Population and Global Health, aims to address health inequities and advance public health through action-oriented research, interdisciplinary training, allyship and equitable partnerships. We aim to foster solution-focused leadership, learning and knowledge generation around priority public health problems. Central to this approach is equitable partnerships. Our research and education will draw upon diverse expertise from across McGill University, within and beyond the boundaries of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and our external partners.Our faculty members engage in practice- and problem-based projects with particular attention to systems of innovation and the broad range of skills required to solve complex public health challenges. With a focus on program and service delivery to transition and scale promising interventions. Our students learn by engaging with real-world health problems in partnership with stakeholders using hands-on experiential learning and community-based, participatory approaches.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will play an important role in leading research with respect to infectious diseases, working closely with the Pandemic and Emergencies Readiness Lab (PERL) and DGPH.The successful candidate will lead research on enhancing pandemic and health emergency readiness drawing on innovative mixed methods, epidemiology, and modelling to inform policy and practice. The incumbent is expected to mentor graduate students and trainees, teach 2 three-credit courses per year as part of the SPGH MScPH program in Public Health or the undergraduate BA degree program in Population and Global Health, and serve on committees within the Department of Global and Public Health.Additional duties will involve working with the Director of the Pandemic and Emergency Readiness Laboratory (PERL) focusing on the development of a new program on pandemic prevention research and policy.The successful candidate will be expected to build a dynamic, independent program of research and seek external salary and operating funds to support this research program. The candidate will have the potential to innovate in public and population health education and an ability to develop meaningful and productive relationships with other researchers, and with population and global health organizations to support and enhance public health research and training.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will contribute to the interdisciplinary education mission of the Department of Global and Public Health, including the training of neonatal nurse practitioner students.All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsCandidates must:Have a PhD or equivalent (e.g., MD degree with MSc) in public health, epidemiology, or in a related field;Have the ability to lead operational research related to pandemic and/or infectious diseases risk assessment and management;Have proven expertise in both quantitative and qualitative, socio-cultural research methods, machine learning and modelling;Have relevant research and work experience related to infectious diseases;Possess an understanding of, and experience working in, the International, Canadian, and Provincial Public Health Systems;Have an understanding of, and experience working in, knowledge translation (e.g., journalism and communications) of research with communities, practitioners and policy makers;\Have a proven track record of working effectively in multi-center partnerships;Teaching experience in Public Health would be considered an asset;Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within few years of appointment is preferred.Faculty/Department/Unit: Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Global and Public Health
