The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.Applicants must have earned a PhD in Linguistics, Modern Turkish Language and Literature, or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement our existing Departmental strengths. For more information about the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations, please visit . Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels, including lecture preparation and delivery, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. The candidate will have a record of excellence in teaching with previous experience in language teaching pedagogy. The successful candidate must have native or near native speaker’s competency in the Turkish language. Ability to introduce students to Ottoman Turkish is an asset.Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, teaching awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, research grants on teaching methods, pedagogically innovative curricular materials, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) including a strong teaching statement, a lesson plan, course materials, and strong course evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.The Department is seeking a scholar who will contribute to an expanding program in Turkish Studies, and who will be expected to teach Modern Turkish in its cultural contexts as part of an established language program at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
