| Posting Summary | The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the Associate Professor level to join our growing faculty. Microsurgery fellowship training is preferred. Applicants should have an interest in microsurgical reconstruction of the breast, head and neck, and extremities as well as general reconstruction and gender affirmation surgery. Applicants should also be dedicated to resident training and education, as well as research. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is a 965-bed hospital and a Level 1 trauma center located thirty-five miles southwest for New York City serving central New Jersey. As an attending at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, responsibilities will include all aspects of patient care and medical record completion, teaching of students and residents via clinical visits and patient rounds, attendance at General Surgery and Plastic Surgery Grand Rounds. Participation in departmental meetings, submission of abstracts/manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals, and other related duties are required as assigned by the Division Chief, Chair, or Dean. Job Description: This position will serve as Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Department of Surgery at RWJMS, as well as the Surgical Director of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Services for the RWJBH Southern Region. The Surgical Director of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery services is a key and senior clinical leadership role within RWJBH. The position is responsible for partnering with their counterpart in the Northern Region to set the vision, drive growth and expansion, and ensure excellence in patient care, quality, safety, research and education for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery services across the health system. The role partners closely with RWJBH leadership in the Southern Region, to advance clinical, financial, and academic missions, while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture. Job Duties: Chief, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, RWJMS 1. Develops and leads programs and activities to ensure optimum quality clinical care and education programs within the Division. 2. Responsible for establishing and leading divisional strategic direction pertaining to programmatic, research, and educational development. 3. Develops and monitors key performance metrics such as quality outcomes measures and internal/external quality indicators to maintain divisional quality control and quality improvement; provides timely feedback to individuals on performance metrics so that quality issues are addressed timely. 4. Recruits and retains high quality physicians to complement existing medical staff and meet patient needs; collaborates with private practice and/or voluntary faculty to build and enhance medical programs. 5. Continually reviews the clinical landscape to identify new areas of clinical and programmatic development. 6. Coordinates research efforts in the division to include funding and supervising clinical research and the publication of results. 7. Ensures plastic surgery Residents receive supervision, experience, and education when rotating through RWJMS facilities, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) New Brunswick. 8. Directs faculty to ensure clinical coverage, drive programmatic growth, promote faculty development, and meet RWJMS teaching objectives. 9. Collaborate with RWJUH New Brunswick in the supervision, development, and provision of care as requested by the hospital. Surgical Director Southern Region 1. Under the direction of RWJBH leadership, develops a system strategy for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery services in partnership with their counterpart in the Northern Region. 2. Provides leadership, collaboration, expertise, oversight, and engagement in the following areas: Strategic Vision and Growth, Network Development & Integration, Community Engagement, and Physician Recruitment. 3. Provides leadership/direction of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery services at RWJBH Southern Region Hospitals. 4. At the request of system or hospital leadership, assists Southern Region Hospitals’ plastic and reconstructive surgery clinical services program; responds to requests from the Chairs of the Hospital Departments regarding compliance with various accrediting organizations and other administrative duties. 5. Provides strategic and programmatic leadership and direction of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery services for the Hospitals’ plastic surgery clinical services program. These services include but are not limited to: a. Assists Service Line Leaders with administrative, supervisory, and training activities as they pertain to Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. b. Supports the Hospitals’ Department of Surgery Chairs in the development of administrative rules, policies and regulations as they pertain to Hospitals’ Plastic and Reconstructive providers and/or programs. c. As requested, advises Hospitals’ Department of Surgery Chairs on the development and periodic review of requirements for medical staff privileges for Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons. d. As requested, reviews and approves all applications for surgical privileges for Hospitals’ plastic surgeons. e. Acts in consultation with the hospitals’ Chairs and other hospital leadership to provide clinical leadership and oversight for Hospitals’ Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons. f. Provides suggestions to hospitals’ Chairs to ensure adequate coverage for plastic and reconstructive services. g. Works with Southern Region Hospital leadership to develop workflows for urgent, as well as elective, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery cases. h. Works with Southern Region Hospital leadership to advise on adequacy of available equipment at Hospitals for Plastic and Reconstructive surgery procedures. i. Participates in regular QA meetings and work with Southern Region Hospital Surgical Chairs, Chief Medical Officers and Hospital Quality teams on Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives as they pertain to Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. |
