Job Description:Contract Type: Full-time (35 hours per week), Open-EndedGrade and Salary: 9 (£56,021 – £66,857)Detailed DescriptionThe School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) is looking to recruit an Associate Professor in Quantity Surveying to work at our Edinburgh campus.We are particularly encouraging applications from candidate with international recognition and expertise in any one of the following areas:
- Risk Management for Construction – the advancement of this sector to face future challenges.
- Cost Control and Circular Economy – embracing sustainability for the Built Environment.
- Digital Transformation of the Built Environment – embedding the 4th Industrial Revolution into teaching and research.

You will also contribute to teaching as a member of the vibrant Construction Project Management and Quantity Surveying discipline team.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe post-holder will be required to:
- Carry out and publish internationally excellent research in construction and the built environment;
- Win research funding through either the submission of high-quality grant proposals or funding from industry, establishing a research group;
- Undertake knowledge exchange activities to promote and disseminate your research;
- Develop and deliver innovative teaching in quantity surveying and related fields at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ work and take responsibility for dealing with referred issues regarding students within their own educational programmes;
- Carry out such administrative and recruitment activities as may be required to achieve these aims.
The successful candidate will be based at our Edinburgh campus in the UK, but occasional visits to other campuses may be required on a need basis. We encourage applications from under-represented groups.Education, Qualifications and ExperienceYou will have:
- a strong track record of research in quantity surveying and related fields as demonstrated through publications, citations, external invitations and research funding;
- the relevant experience to engage and innovate in our quantity surveying degree programmes; and
- the drive and commitment to contribute to the expansion of our successful programmes.
Plus, you will be established as a research leader, with the ambition to build a world-class academic group and have the experience to supervise PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.Essential Criteria
- PhD in a built environment related discipline;
- Track record of research with internationally recognised publications;
- Track record of winning research funding;
- Skills to deliver innovative teaching within the discipline as well as effectively supervise MSc students;
- Excellent interpersonal and teamworking skills;
- Track record of managing a team of PhD students to successful completion of their research studies and post-doctoral researchers to successful completion of their research project.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working with industry;
- Track record of delivering innovations in teaching and research;
- Membership of appropriate professional and/or academic societies;
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy;
- Ability to operate at the cross-disciplinary boundaries of construction and related fields.
