Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Capacity Development Programme Management Office (CDPMO) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The main purpose of the position is to support the range of activities related to the programme management of the Development Account. The Development Account is a capacity development programme of the UN Secretariat financed from its regular budget and implemented by DESA, the five Regional Commissions, UNCTAD, UNEP, UN-Habitat and UNODC. The incumbent reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer, Development Account Programme Management Support (DAPMS) in CDPMO.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Contributes to the timely review of concept notes and project documents of projects funded under the DA assuring that the documents meet the quality requirements set out by the Programme Manager in DA guidelines and assists with the transmission of their decision and implementation with the entities;
- Contributes to the preparation of the Proposed Programme Budget of the DA, the Progress Report of the Secretary General to the GA; and other written outputs;
- Assists with the review of the annual progress reports and helps monitor and analyze the implementation and performance of projects in a proactive way with the aim of supporting implementing entities in using the DA funds in a timely effective and efficient way using the full resources allotted to them;
- Assists with the development and maintenance of the DA knowledge management tool for programme management and information sharing and ensures that important documents and communications are included in the system;
- Maintains the DA website ensuring that it is up-to-date;
- Provides administrative and substantive support to meetings of the DA Network, meetings with implementing entities and training events organized on the DA;
- Supports outreach activities of the Development Account, including the preparation of newsletters and other materials;
- Performs other duties as required.
Education
- A first-level university degree in economics and / or social sciences, business or public administration, finance or related area is required. Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in these areas desirable.
Work Experience
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project / programme management, communication, administration or related area is required. No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme examination (YPP) or the G to P Examination (G to P). Good understanding of the logical framework and/or monitoring and evaluation of projects is desirable. Experience with economic/and or social issues at international or possibly national level is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
