Job Summary
The Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education (EDSCE) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate professor position in Special Education- Moderate to Severe Disabilities. The position is Special Title Series, Tenure Eligible. This is a 9-month appointment, effective August 16, 2025.
Responsibilities will be divided between teaching, service, and research, with faculty in this position typically expected to teach a 3-3 course load.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Teach 3 three-credit hour courses (9 credit hours; or the equivalent) each semester for a total of 6 courses each year, such as Practicums in Special Education (EDS 301, EDS 401, EDS 632, EDS 650); Student Teaching (EDS 550); and Methods for Teaching Students with MSD (EDS 530, EDS 549).
- Assist with the recruitment and advising of students and serve on program committees.
- Engage with K12 and university faculty in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Serve on masters and doctoral committees.
- Conduct a line of research relevant to the department and University’s mission (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, presentations).
- In collaboration with colleagues, seek extramural funding to support
- personnel preparation and development activities.
- Serve on College Committees as a representative of the Department.
- Attend department, committee, and college meetings.
The Distribution of Effort (DOE) for this position is:
- at least 75% instruction (18 credit hours –- six 3-credit hour courses –- each academic year)
- 10% Research
- 15% Service (service to the college, department, institution, and the profession).
Further, there is an unfunded research cap of 10% on your DOE. However, if you receive funding for your research, you may buy out up to 20% of your research time on your DOE.

inclusive learning environment.
