Automotive Mechanic Intern (High School)

This internship gives you the chance to learn important automotive skills while supporting repair and maintenance work on a variety of equipment. You will work closely with trained mechanics and take part in hands-on tasks that build your confidence and experience. As a Automotive Mechanic Intern (High School), you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Repair: Assist with repair and replacement of mechanical parts on cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
• Preventative Tasks: Take part in routine maintenance to ensure equipment stays in safe working condition
• Diagnostic Work: Help identify problems using tools and procedures to determine needed repairs
• Inspection Training: Learn how to complete state inspections, road tests, and required inspection records
• Safety Practices: Follow proper safety procedures and maintain a clean and hazard free work area
• Record Keeping: Help maintain equipment records and report missing parts or needed replacements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
• Senior enrolled in High School 2026 – 2027 – The internship can be through the ’26-’27 school year, up until 6/30/2027 or
• Junior enrolled in High School 2026 – 2027- The internship can be through the ’26-’27 school year, summer 2027, and ’27- ’28 school year up until 6/30/2028.
• Work may begin on July 1, 2026 for students age 16+, provided their participating school offers supervision. For all others, the start date will be August/September 2026.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

• You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
  You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2026 – 2027 school year.

Additional Requirements:

• Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school’s co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school’s requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
• By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth’s Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
• Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
• You must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved vocational program that has provided preparation and training for the duties of this internship.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
