RAF Brize Norton is one of the largest station’s within the Royal Air Force with approximately 7600 personnel – a combination of military, civilian and supporting contractors, together maintaining the highly operational output of both regular and reserve units. The Station is home to the RAF’s Strategic and Tactical Air Transport (AT) and Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) forces, as well as host to many lodger units and personnel from all armed services. With its mixed fleet of aircraft RAF Brize Norton provides rapid global mobility in support of UK overseas Operations and Exercises, as well as Air-to-Air Refuelling support for fast jet aircraft both on Operations and in support of UK Homeland Defence. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

You will report directly to OC QCIT and as the OSW Executive Support and Engineering Policy Manager you will be required to carry out the following tasks:

  • Maintaining Unit Aviation Engineering Standing Orders (AESOs) as published on SharePoint. Including a continuous review of the quality of AESOs, their presentation and making recommendations for their improvement to each sponsor.
  • Initiating the requirement for the review of AESOs and the subsequent upload to SharePoint ensuring a full audit trail is maintained.
  • Processing of all amended submission of AESOs in accordance with current procedures. This includes the deletion of obsolete orders and the inclusion of new orders as requested by each sponsor. A full audit trail of all amendments is to be maintained.
  • Act as the focal point for questions or concerns of users and sponsors of AESOs.
  • Updating of the preliminary pages within AESOs Books 1, 2 and 3.
  • Carry out a monthly check of the regulations concerning Unit Engineering and Logistic Orders and implementing changes needed to AESOs.
  • Implementation of AEROs on behalf of OC AWE in conjunction with XO OSW.
  • Provide administrative support to OC OSW assisting in the delivery of their duties by providing a first point of contact for external engagement and providing diary management to help ensure tasks and meetings are prioritised appropriately.
  • Due to the nature of the department, the successful candidate will also be cross trained in the OSW Admin position in order to provide cover in times of staff absences.

Person specification

This position is a busy role, with frequent requests coming in for immediate action. The successful candidate must possess good interpersonal skills and communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain working relationships with personnel from across Station, while Be comfortable with change due to the regular change of personnel due to promotions and postings.

Strong work prioritisation is also essential to manage multiple tasks effectively. The position utilises various IT applications so good IT skills are essential, on job training will be provided for specialist software.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
