Schedule: full time, hybrid (in office Tuesday-Thursday at Mission Bay campus)

Summary:
The Brand Manager champions the brand, advocating its value and promoting adoption to increase awareness within the Office of Communications, across the enterprise, and to key target audiences. The position is an integral, experienced member of the Brand Strategy team within the Office of Communications, responsible for making the brand tangible, relevant, and compelling through strong brand infrastructure, meaningful brand experiences and strategic brand counsel.

You will:

  • Steward and cultivate UCSF’s brand image and identity system
  • Lead brand training and counsel of internal stakeholders and develop process improvements for engaging with internal stakeholders
  • Ideate, define, develop and maintain enterprise-wide brand assets (i.e. tools and templates)
  • Guide brand Application across a variety of channels and manage UCSF’s identity website and updating its brand standards
  • Forge strategic relationships across the organization to support brand ambassadors and enforce adoption of the brand. Additionally, you’ll track, analyze and report on the effectiveness of brand adoption efforts
  • Shape recommendations to strengthen the brand
  • Manage trademarks and licensing

Responsibilities:

Brand Infrastructure and Training
o Guide and support the development of new/revised brand guidelines, responding to changing communications approaches, gaps in existing identity system and internal stakeholder needs. Update brand guidelines and associated materials accordingly
o Design and lead brand trainings to encourage adoption and understanding of the brand
o Lead process improvements in how to engage internal stakeholders with the brand
o Evolve and maintain brand asset inventory (tools, templates, and associated brand/Office of Communications materials). Assess new brand tool/template needs and conceive and produce solutions that benefit and serve internal stakeholders
o Work with key internal partners to refresh and maintain brand portal to encourage adoption of brand standards and use of brand tools
o Track best practices in creating and maintaining overall brand health
o Develop recommendations and execute tactics to continually enhance the brand

Brand Management & Strategy
o Partner with Director, Brand Development to develop and evolve the brand
o Oversee and lead counsel to internal stakeholders via brand email inbox, with support from brand strategy team members
o Lead projects from strategy to production with the Office of Communications and key strategic partners to advocate and communicate the brand with internal and external stakeholders
o Guide internal constituents, key partners (internal and external), agencies and vendors to deliver the best expression of the UCSF brand across varied communications channels while promoting consistency. Build consensus, gain agreement, and manage stakeholders, projects and the creative process to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
o Develop recommendations to protect the long-term health of the brand based on partner work

Brand Initiatives & Implementation
o Partner with the Office of Communications and internal stakeholders on brand and creative projects that raise awareness for the enterprise-wide brand or sub-brands
o Lead and/or shape high visibility brand opportunities (i.e. Bay Area Science Festival, Nobel awards, etc.) as needed
o Contribute to the Office of Communications priorities and projects, as assigned

Experience working collaboratively with creative resources, external agency resources, marketers and project stakeholders Req
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize deadlines/deliverables on-time and on-budget Req

Experience conducting trainings and/or delivering presentations to diverse audiences; comfortable presenting via Zoom to groups Req

Ability to maintain good working relationships with team members, internal partners, and third-party vendors Req
Comfortable with both design conception and production-level execution. Familiarity with both print and web-based creative applications Req
High aesthetic level; clean design style; prior experience working with visual brand systems Req
Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel; project management and/or Creative Suite tools a plus Req
Thorough analytical and written communication skills Req

Experience working in an agency or client-facing role Pref
Thorough knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure Pref

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a related field Req
Minimum 3 years of experience in brand, marketing and/or agency environment Req
Experience in brand identity, brand marketing and partnership marketing a plus Pref
Passion and interest in health care and health sciences Pref
Interest in brand experience, customer experience and design practices Pref
