Job Description
Are you passionate about brownfield redevelopment and finding solutions to complex environmental challenges? We are growing and seeking an environmental professional experienced in the assessment and clean-up of brownfields! We are searching for an accomplished, Senior Project Manager/Leader to identify, develop, and lead privately and publicly funded brownfield projects in Northeast Ohio.
In support of the Cleveland office, the successful candidate will manage brownfield grant and other site investigation projects, assist with grant applications, grant project scope development, budgets, work assignments, reporting, and compliance of brownfield projects. Review project progress and evaluate technical data for decision making participants internally and our clients. Manage relationships and communicate project approach, findings and recommendations to clients, regulators, and other stakeholders, and respond quickly to questions and problems. Be the communication link between local environmental practitioners for the office and our senior leaders in the Brownfields Group.
The candidate will analyze and forecast project opportunities, revenue, and profitability. They will work with the National Brownfields Manager and team to develop strategic marketing plans to grow a coordinated Brownfields Program in Ohio. Assist with state and federal brownfield grant writing and grant Application preparation and implementation. Contribute to business planning and identify strategic opportunities to increase Terracon’s Ohio brownfields market share.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Lead and manage brownfield projects, as well as mentor supporting staff, including contracting, managing project budgets and schedules, and coordinating with clients, staff, property owners, and regulators.
• Develop an understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
• Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
• Support the creation/refinement of brownfield redevelopment strategies, including assessment/investigation and remedial strategies for various types of sites and contaminants.
• Work as part of a team on complex regulatory projects involving multiple stakeholders, agencies and professionals.
• Assist with proposals and business development activities, including attending conferences and market support activities.
• Must be self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills, willingness and ability to follow directives/ instructions, and interpret technical work both in the field and office, as well as communicate technical concepts to clients and the public.
• Highly motivated, customer focused, and able to work independently as well as being part of a larger team.
• Prospect new clients and secure assessment, remediation, and brownfield redevelopment projects in Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas.
• Assist with cross-selling and increasing business from new and existing accounts.
• Work with internal client development (CD) professionals and project managers to develop and refine CD strategies for new and existing clients.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Environmental Science, Geology or Engineering; M.S. is a plus and a minimum of 15+ years of professional environmental consulting experience.
• Demonstrated experience in all phases of environmental investigation and preparation and scoping of investigative and remedial strategies.
• Prior experience with the Ohio Voluntary Action Program, and USEPA and State of Ohio brownfield grants.
• Prior experience in environmental consulting and complex brownfield project management.
• Existing client base and 10+ years responsibility for managing and growing existing and new accounts.
• Proven track record with successful marketing, regional business development, and client relationship management.
• Strong business acumen and attributes, coupled with knowledge and experience of the brownfield redevelopment process, including thorough knowledge of due diligence, remediation, and overall redevelopment processes.
• Interest and experience in community revitalization; ability to identify and address barriers to bringing brownfields into productive reuse.
• Possess strong verbal, written, presentation, and excellent client management skills.
• Valid U.S. driver s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
• Willingness and ability to potentially work in unfavorable weather conditions.
