Minimum Requirements

education:
Bachelor’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience:
Three years of directly related facility maintenance or building management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Building Manager plays a key role in shaping the physical environment that supports Duke’s mission. You will manage, plan, and coordinate the physical, environmental, and security needs of assigned facilities-ensuring our buildings operate efficiently and effectively every day.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage, plan, coordinate, and monitor the physical, environmental, and security conditions and general maintenance of the building facilities of a department or other administrative unit.
  • Secure and coordinate related services with appropriate departments or outside organizations, including but not limited to housekeeping, HVAC, structural and cosmetic repairs, and maintenance of safety features; solicit proposals and/or bids from alternative service providers where appropriate and make recommendations for optimal selection.
  • Determine priorities for the enhancement, repair, and modification of building facilities and equipment; develop plans for enhancement as well as ongoing and preventive maintenance of facilities.
  • Coordinate and supervise setup and takedown of building areas, equipment, and furniture for special events.
  • Prepare and update plans for response to and recovery from emergency and disaster conditions pertaining to assigned building(s); lead and participate in implementation of emergency plans in appropriate situations.
  • Analyze building conditions and assigned building management resources and prepare reports setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and conclusions; advise other administrative officials regarding building conditions and utilization as affected by repair, maintenance, and enhancement activities.
  • Make work assignments and coordinate multiple maintenance trade activities where appropriate; recommend personnel actions for assigned employees including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $86,700.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
